This tour departs from downtown Duck, NC and traverses the Currituck Sound to experience what makes this area ecologically distinct. On this tour we will navigate the many crab pots that guide our way across this body of water. Some of the famous Corolla horses have been relocated to this isolated island in the Currituck Sound within sight of the Corolla Lighthouse. We’ll search for this isolated herd of wild horses from the water and see how they have thrived along North Carolina’s barrier islands for hundreds of years. We’ll also view a one of the few remaining privately owned hunting lodges in the area. We often see various bird species like egrets, herons, osprey and sometimes eagles. If conditions are favorable, we’ll check a crab pot and discuss the commercial blue crab fishery in North Carolina. Don’t forget your binoculars, camera and a desire for adventure as we explore the pristine backwaters of the Outer Banks.
