Bruce has been a hang gliding instructor since 1987 and has shepherded over 250 instructors through Kitty Hawk Kites Flight School. He taught his dad, wife and two sons how to fly. Bruce is a graduate of the College of William and Mary with a degree in Marketing and Spanish and a concentration in rugby. Bruce comes from a baseball background in Williamsport, Pennsylvania and has a dog named Happy. At 45, Bruce’s most memorable flight was in Valie de Bravo.

Andy has been a hang gliding instructor since 1991 and has taught hang gliding in California and North Carolina. He was the United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association’s Instructor of the Year in 2011. Andy was a competitive swimmer at East Carolina University where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration. Andy is a musician and certified tax practitioner from Indianapolis, Indiana and has a dog named Tornado. At 43, his most memorable flight was at Marina Beach, California.

Mike has been a hang gliding instructor since 2007 and has taught over 3,000 students how to fly. Mike was 2013 Flight School Employee of the Year and comes from Ellicot City, Maryland with a background in ski racing. Mike is the 2nd tallest instructor at Kitty Hawk Kites, standing tall at 6’5. At 25, Mike’s most memorable flight as in Lake Hartwell, Georgia.

Hang glider pilot since 1975, an instructor since 1977. Jon is a member of the US National Sport Class Hang Gliding Team. Sport Class Champion 2013 Santa Cruz Flats competition, 4th place 2013 US National Championship . Va. AAU State Gymnastic Champion 1964-1965.From Tennesse, Outer banks resident since 1974. Jon has flown over 9,000 safe solo and tandem flights.

Eric has been a hang gliding instructor since 2009 and is the Assistant Manager at Morningside Flight Park in Charlestown, New Hampshire (link to Morningside). Eric started flying with his father 2004 and later taught his brother. Eric is an artist with a degree in Communications and Design. From Provo, Utah, Eric has designed and built his own surf boards. At 28, his most memorable flight was at Horse Heaven, Utah.

Alex has been hang gliding since 2011 and was the 2013 Spark Award winner for his positivity and unbridled enthusiasm and passion for flying, teaching and life. Alex comes from Wautoma, Wisconsin with a wrestling and motocross background and a degree in Marketing. Alex is a Packers fan and a brewmaster. At 25, Alex’s most memorable flight was at Point of the Mountain, Utah.

Paul has been a hang gliding instructor since 2010 and was Instructor of the year 2011, 2012 and 2013. In 2014 Paul is assisting Kitty Hawk Kites at Morningside Flight Park in Charlestown, NH (link to Morningside). As one of three Mazzoni brothers who have taught at Kitty Hawk Kites, Paul is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Philosophy and English. From Durham, North Carolina, Paul has logged over 7,000 miles as a cross country runner before appearing in a major motion picture. At 22, his most memorable flight was in Slide Mountain, Nevada.
Josh “Safety” Laufer
Hang Gliding Instructor, Private Pilot
Josh has been a hang gliding pilot since 2008. Josh teaches at Morningside Flight Park in Charlestown, NH (link to Morningside) in the summer and in Nags Head during the winter. Josh is a graduate of Emery Riddle Aeronautical University where he was the President of University Hang Gliding Club where he earned his nickname “Safety” for his diligent adherence to safety regulations. From Santa Cruz, California, Josh rides a unicycle and has two cats name Bella and Luna. At 23, his most memorable flight was in West Rutland, Vermont.

Robert has been a hang gliding instructor since 2013 and has already taught over 400 students how to fly. Robert grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania where he excelled in rugby and physical training and is also a Rugby Coach. A funny fact about Robert is he didn’t wear long pants until he was in the 10th grade. At 21, his most memorable flight was in Currituck, North Carolina.
