Pilot Rating
Are You a Rated Pilot and Want to Fly with Us?
*Must be a current member of the USHPA
Hang Gliding I or higher rated pilots can fly on the dunes at Jockey's Ridge State Park. You can either bring a glider or demo one. All rentals on equipment are handled by our Hang Gliding School, though you must obtain a permit from the park.
Hang Gliding II with tow ratings or higher rated pilots can fly at our Aero-Tow facility at the Currituck County Airport (March - October). You can be towed up to 2000ft or higher by an ultralight. You can either bring a glider or rent one from us. All rentals for the Aero-tow are handled by the Hang Gliding School at the Airport.
Pilots wishing to aero-tow without USHGA sign-off will be required to fly with an instructor at least once to verify skills (at the tow instructor's discretion). Pilot must be Hang II rated or higher.

Para I or higher rated pilots can fly on the dunes at Jockey's Ridge State Park. You must obtain a permit from the park. You must bring your own equipment.

On Friday my wife and I had our first hang gliding lesson at your school. I am now hooked on hang gliding! Saturday morning at 3 am I saw a hang glider off our 5th floor ocean side room at the Ramada. This person remained there till after 8 am. I have attached a jpeg formatted photo of this person at about 6:30 am...here is the first photo a second will follow. If you know who this person is I would be happy to send them one of the originals( we got double prints). I learned a lot about hang gliding by just observing this graceful flyer! Thank you. --Don

A whole mess of us came down to Kitty Hawk this past weekend and had the time of our lives hang gliding. Though we live over 5 hours away, we're ready to come back down.
