Press Releases37th ANNUAL WORLD'S OLDEST HANG GLIDING EVENT Nags Head, NC (April 2009) - Kitty Hawk Kites, located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, presents the 37th Annual Hang Gliding Spectacular and Air Games, the oldest continuous hang gliding competition in the world. This year’s event will be held from May 15th-May 18th at Jockey’s Ridge State Park (the largest natural living sand dune on the East Coast) and Jockey’s Ridge Crossing in Nags Head. The competition expects to see record numbers of competitors as well as spectators. Competition begins at 12pm on Friday, May 15th, at Jockey’s Ridge State Park and lasts until 5pm. The competition continues on Saturday, May 16th, from 10am until 5pm, and on Sunday, May 17th, from 10am until 2:30pm. The Hang Gliding Spectacular and family events this weekend are free and open to the public. Bring a chair and watch the world’s oldest hang gliding event as new records are attempted! The weekend long competition and spectator event features competitors from all over the world who travel to Kitty Hawk Kites to fly above the dunes, using the same strong winds that led to the Wright Brothers’ aviation innovations over a century ago. The three days of competition involve pilots who must round pylons and land in the center of targets for points. After a day of competition, join the hang glider pilots and local Outer Banks residents in an annual celebration: the Woody Jones Memorial Street Dance. This “Street Dance” includes live music and dancing in the parking lot of Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head, from 8pm- 11pm.
