ROGALLO KITE FESTIVAL A BIG SUCCESS

Nags Head, NC (June 2009) - Kitty Hawk Kites, located in Nags Head, North Carolina, held the 27th Annual Rogallo Kite festival on June 13-14, 2009, resulting in some of the largest crowds to ever attend a kite festival in the Outer Banks.

The Rogallo Festival is held every June to honor Dr. Francis Rogallo.  Mr. Rogallo, a retired NASA scientist, dedicated his life to aviation.  Mr. Rogallo’s invention of the flexible wing led to the development of several aviation innovations, including hang gliding, parasailing and other wind sports.

 Spectators viewed large single line kites on Saturday and Sunday.  Children were encouraged to make a free kite at the Kitty Hawk Kites store in Nags Head and fly it during the festival.  Kitty Hawk Kites, HQ Kites and Skydog Kites offered free kite lessons throughout the day on Jockey’s Ridge.  Music was provided by Kitebus Festivals and kite displays were done by Larger than Life kites.  The event was an overall success with several vacationers learning to fly!
