With summer in Full Swing, we are excited to invite you and your family to see what is new for the upcoming months at Kitty Hawk Kites and the Outer Banks. Sales Tax Free Shopping in North Carolina Weekend, Area Wide

Come to North Carolina for your shopping needs on this great weekend where most items are sales tax free!

The sales tax holiday begins after midnight Thursday, which is 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 5th and runs through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 7th, 2005.

Some of the items not taxed include clothing, sport or recreational equipment, school supplies, and computers. There are some items that are taxed, so please visit www.ncrma.org for more information and a list of specific list of items for this event.

North Carolina is still the Best Place to Kite Surf

Kiteboarding is now the fastest growing sport in the world. The Outer Banks beaches in North Carolina are the best for the beginner or for the most novice kitesurfers. To see more about this the area and how kiteboarding has progressed as a sport, click here.

Local Events

Wednesday from 10am - 2pm we have a FREE KID's DAY! Located at the Nags Head Store (mile post 12.5) We have free face painting, kite making and games for the kids!

August 4th - 6th Annual Kitty Hawk Kites and Carolina Outdoors Ocean Games. It is a whole day of fun in the sun with a 7 mile kayak race, sand castle building contests, kite boarding demonstrations and much more. 10:00am-4:00pm, Quagmires, Kill Devil Hills, NC. Prizes will be given to the winners and registration is free. Please contact bmcintyre@kittyhawk.com or watersports@kittyhawk.com for participation information.

August 12th - 2nd Annual Corolla Kite Festival. Come fly in at Hampden Inn Highway NC 12. Kids can make and fly their own kites. Join in the stunt kite demonstrations. There will be exhibitions, casual competition, and games from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. 10am - 4pm.

August 19-20th - 9th Annual OBX Boomerang Demonstration. Celebrate the fun of flight in. Then step outside to see the USBA Boomers from across the nation who flocked to the Outer Banks for a weekend of fun. sPlus, join the Saturday workshops and lectures that explain how these fun toys use the same engineering as the Wright Brother's first flight. 10:00am - 4:00pm, Wright Brother's Memorial, Kill Devil Hills.

August 26-28th - 3rd Annual OBX Surf Sport Competition Kitty Hawk Kites Kite Boarding Demonstration and Surf Kayaking competition. The water of the sound and the Atlantic await the best kite boarders and sea kayakers on the coast as they show what they've got!! You won't want to miss this one...come watch these high adrenaline water sports. Kitty Hawk Kites, Nags Head.

Tech Talk

This is a NEW section that will be displayed every issue. This month's issue is written by Doug Banjak who is the eco-tour guide and kayak manager.

Kayaking is one of the fastest growing outdoor recreation activities in the world and there is no better place to try it than right here on the Outer Banks. The best thing about kayaking is that it is for people of all ages and athletic abilities. You can surf ocean waves or just enjoy a peaceful sunset over the quiet sound.

For people who haven’t done much kayaking before, we offer short 2 hour paddling trips through the shallow waters of our local marshes, swamps, and forests. All of the equipment is provided as well as a 15 minute instruction on the basics of how to control the boat. Next, you are off with your experienced guide to enjoy the amazing scenery and wildlife that we are blessed with on the Outer Banks. You will leave with memories and experiences that will leave you craving for more. These tours are great for the whole family.

If the ocean is where you want to go, we have you covered there too. Stop in to one of our many locations where you can rent a Sit-On-Top kayak. These boats are safe and easy to use for people of all experience levels. We have kayaks for 1, 2, or 3 people, so the whole family can join in. Whether you prefer to ride the surf or paddle with the dolphins, you can’t go wrong with one of these beach toys.

If we still haven’t got your interest, maybe catching some of our many varieties of local fish, in the ocean or sound, right from one of our specially outfitted kayaks will do the trick. This is one of the best ways to get away from everyone else and hook the big ones you have been looking for.
