Housing
Housing is expensive and can be difficult to obtain on the Outer Banks. For seasonal full-time employees, Kitty Hawk Kites assists on a first-come/first-served basis. The houses currently available are shown, attributes of the individual houses may be viewed by clicking on the picture.
General Information on All Houses:
- All houses are non-smoking and no pets.
- All accommodations are shared, including two tenants per bedroom.
- No male/female shared rooms are permitted.
- Overnight guest policies are strictly followed in accordance with the lease terms.
- All houses have washer and dryer facilities.
- Houses have limited kitchen/cooking utensils, and tenants must provide their own bed and bath linens.
- Limited parking is available.
- Trash pickup is supplied by the county – tenants must put trash cans at roadside on the day of trash pickup.
- Rent includes basic cable (television may or may not be included), basic local phone service (long distance is NOT enabled), as well as water and electricity (these are capped, and overuse may result in charges to tenants and/or deductions from security deposits).
- Houses are routinely inspected, with or without notice.
- Any illegal drugs found will result in immediate departure and local authority involvement if necessary.
- All residential community guidelines (curfews, towing, party limitations, etc.) are strictly enforced by local police.
- All tenants are responsible for cleanliness and immediate notification of necessary repairs.
- No housing is secured until a signed contract and security deposit ($400) are received.
- Security deposits should be made separately from rent payments as shown next to the house picture, and maybe made by check, money order or credit card. DO NOT send cash through the mail.
- Leases are for a minimum 12-week period, with the first four (4) and last two (2) weeks due at the time of arrival. All remaining rent will be taken through payroll deduction. Costs are usually $100/week (subject to change – actual cost will be stated in the contract). Leases broken before lease termination date will result in forfeiture of security deposit. Extending leases may be possible, and may be at a lower rate than the first twelve (12) weeks.
- It is recommended that you read the entire contract and understand it before signing (as it is a legal document). A standard version is provided here. Changes in your working conditions do not release you from the lease requirements.
