New Adventures

Surf Lessons - Kitty Hawk Kites will be offering surf lessons this season to those who have always wanted to learn to surf. Professionals from the Outer Banks surfing circuit will be teaching surf lessons all summer at Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head, MP 12.5. Kayak Tours - Several tours are offered this year including a Pirate Kayak Tour for children, which features Kitty Hawk Kites instructors portraying pirates and telling stories about Outer Banks pirate history. In addition, bioluminescence tours, Alligator River and Safari River, as well as Pea Island, are all featured tours at Kitty Hawk Kites. Get a chance to see rare and protected wildlife and vegetation, and a national wildlife refuge, while learning about the history of the Outer Banks. KHK Kids Hang Gliding Lessons

Hang Gliding - Kitty Hawk Kites Hang Gliding School, located in Jockey’s ridge State Park has a new lesson geared towards children!! Now kids get the chance to feel the rush of flying on the dunes of Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Kiteboarding - Kitty Hawk Kites Kiteboarding Center located at MP 15.5 has free kite control lessons every evening Mon-Thurs at 5 pm all summer. Upcoming Events

June 13 - Wil-Bear Wright's Kite Festival of Fun - Kitty Hawk Kites (mp 12.5), Nags Head. Wil-Bear Wright at Kitty Hawk Kites for a day filled with fun activities for the kids. Make and fly your own kite, try yo-yo stunts, get your face painted, free balloons, free candy and lots of fun! This Wednesday family extravaganza kicks off our summer long Kid's Day, held every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. 877-FLY-THIS or 252-441-4124.

June 16 - 17 - 25th Annual Rogallo Kite Festival - Jockey's Ridge State Park (mp 12.5), Nags Head. The Rogallo Kite festival, presented by Kitty Hawk Kites, will continue honoring Francis M. Rogallo, NASA scientist and inventor of the Flexible Wing. This two day festival will feature our signature kite flying on the dunes of Jockey's Ridge State Park. Throughout the two day kite festival, there will be exhibitions and demonstrations including stunt and power kite lessons, free children's games and activities, and much more! 877-FLY-THIS or 252-441-4124.

June 29 - July 1 - Kitty Hawk Kites Kiteboarding Competition - Kitty Hawk Kites Kitboarding Center (mp 15.5), Windmill Point. Come see some of the best kite boarders in the world right here on the Outer Banks. Free demonstrations and competitions will be held. Kite boarding manufactures representatives on-site. June 30 - Current Awareness Day-Kitty Hawk Kites is partnering up with the Eena Project to bring awareness to rip currents and beach safety. From 10-4 at the Kitty Hawk Kites store MP 12.5 in Nags Head there will be representatives from the local ocean rescue, national park service, national weather service, and many others. Rip current demonstrations, films, and information will be available to make sure everyone is educated on rip currents and beach safety. Raffle prizes will be given away throughout the day from local merchants. Prizes include;a boogie board, kiteboarding lessons, kayak tour and hang gliding lessons from Kitty Hawk Kites. Free Kids Day

June 19th - Labor Day - From 10-2 in the courtyard of the Monteray Shores Shopping Complex, Corolla. Kids can get their faces painted, climb the rock wall, toy demos, play games, and make a kite!! Kids day in Corolla will run from June 19th through Labor Day! 877-FLY-THIS or 252-441-4124.

June 13 - Memorial Day - From 10-2 every Wednesday kids can enjoy kitemaking, face painting, and games on our lawn in front of our Nags Head store. As always “try before you buy”, try out the latest and greatest toys for summer!! A new feature to Kids Day this year is appearances from actors of The Lost Colony. April/May Recap

Kitty Hawk Kites had a very busy spring, with many great events!! Below is a wrap up on events for the spring.

News

The professional Cabrinha kiteboarding team was in town starting the 25th of May to not only shoot their new video, but to celebrate the launch of the new slider, sponsored by Cabrinha, at the Kitty Hawk Kites Kitebaording Center. Professionals from all over the world were on hand, including Damion Leroy, who is the current “cover man” for Kite boarding magazine!! Jockey's Ridge Flyer

On May 19th 2007, John Harris and Robert Crowell officially dedicated the “Jockey's Ridge Flyer with a ribbon cutting! Robert Crowell designed the 6-foot wood sculpture specifically for Kitty Hawk Kites. The sculpture is permantly mounted out in front of the Nags Head Kitty Hawk Kites, with Jockey's Ridge State Park as a back drop. The flier comes with a mount for which a kite can fly from.

Events

March 30-April 1 - Kitty Hawk Kites Fly Into Spring - The first kite festival of the year saw record numbers of spectators!! What better way to celebrate Spring and kick-off National Kite Month than a Kitty Hawk Kites Kite Festival! Kite professionals from all over were on hand to do demos, and Kitty Hawk Kites staff were available as well, demoing all the latest kites and toys!

April 7 - Kitty Hawk Kites Easter Eggstarvaganza - Over 300 children and their families came out to Kitty Hawk Kites in Nags Head for the Outer Banks Largest Easter Egg hunt. Over 2000 toy and prize filled eggs were discovered, and I lucky person won a webkin!! Appearences by the Easter Bunny, and free pizza added to the fun filled event.

May 5 - 6 - 5th Annual OBX Surf Kayak Competition – 1st Street Beach Access, Kill Devil Hills, NC presented by Kitty Hawk Kites. The ECSKA's best came out to compete with great weather and incredible waves!! The best of the best surf kayakers put on an amazing show competing for prizes provided by kayak sponsors!

May 18 - 21 - 35th Annual Hang Gliding Spectacular - This year’s spectacular was the biggest to-date!! Record numbers of competitors, as well as past KHK instructors were present!! On the evening of Saturday the 19th The Woody Jones Memorial Street Dance at the Kitty Hawk Kites Nags Head store was a blast!! Rootsy Collins, a local band, performed until 11pm, along with concessions by The Weeping Radish, and Sooey’s BBQ. May 25 - 27 - 32007 Kiteboarding Demo Days - Indutry reps were on hand to demo the latest and greatest in gear, while members from the Cabrinha professional kite boarding team, were out as well to introduce the new KHK slider!! Cabrinha (sponsor of the KHK slider) also shot their new kiteboarding video at the KHK Kiteboarding Center. Pro's got a chance to try out new gear, while novices got an opportunity to talk to professionals about the sport.
