Absolutely. Safety is our top priority. All Kitty Hawk Kites parasailing flights are operated by U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captains with CPR-certified crew and over 30 years of parasailing experience on the Outer Banks. You’ll watch a short safety video before boarding, and our equipment is inspected daily. You take off and land directly from the boat — no jumping, no swimming required. Guests of all ages fly with us every day, from kids to grandparents. 🪂
Do I need experience to go parasailing? +
Not at all — no experience needed! Our crew handles everything. You’ll check in at the dock, watch a quick safety briefing, get harnessed in, and gently lift off right from the back of the boat. There’s nothing you need to do except sit back, relax, and enjoy the view. It’s one of the easiest and most accessible adventures on the Outer Banks, perfect for first-timers and returning guests alike.
How long does a parasailing trip take? +
The full experience is about an hour from check-in to landing. Your actual flight time in the air is approximately 8–12 minutes, during which you’ll soar up to 900 feet above the Outer Banks with panoramic views of the sound, coastline, and barrier islands. Single, double, and triple flights are available daily from our Duck and Manteo locations. Not flying? You can join as an observer and enjoy the ride from the boat.

Do I need prior experience to parasail? +
No experience needed! If you can sit, you can fly. Our crew takes care of everything—just relax and enjoy the view.
Is parasailing safe? +
Yes. We have an impeccable safety record and follow WSIA (Water Sports Industry Association) guidelines. All captains are U.S. Coast Guard licensed, and all crew members are CPR and First Aid certified.
How high do you fly? +
You’ll fly up to 900 feet depending on your flight package. We follow all FAA regulations and use the Winch Direct Parasailing method for safe takeoff and landing directly from the boat.
When is it available in the Outer Banks? +
- Manteo: April through September
- Duck: May 15 through September 15
Age Weight & Health Requirements +
How old do you have to be to parasail?
Minimum age is 5 years old. Kids under 10 must fly with an adult.
Are there weight restrictions?
Yes. Weight minimum is usually 150–175 lbs (combined), and maximum is 300–400 lbs (combined). Weather and wind may affect these limits.
Can I parasail while pregnant?
For safety reasons, parasailing is not recommended during pregnancy, especially after the first trimester.
Do I need to know how to swim?
Nope! All guests wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life vests, and you’ll take off and land directly on the boat.

How long does the parasailing experience take?
Plan on 1 to 1.5 hours total, including boat time. Flight time is typically 10–12 minutes per person or group.
What are the flight options?

What are the flight heights?
- Extreme Flight – 500 ft rope (approx. 300 ft high)

Is gratuity included? +
No. While not required, tips are always appreciated for our hard-working, safety-focused crew.
What's your cancellation policy? +
- Cancel 48+ hours in advance to reschedule or receive a refund.
- Same-day cancellations and no-shows are non-refundable.
- Weather-related cancellations will be rescheduled or refunded.
Gear, Photos & What to Bring +
What should I wear?
- Casual beachwear – bathing suit, shorts, or light layers
- Secure footwear – no flip-flops if possible
- Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, water, and a towel
Will I get wet?
It’s up to you! Choose a dry takeoff and landing, or ask for a fun “toes to nose” dip if conditions allow. Occasionally, light water landings may happen based on weather or safety.
Can I bring a camera?
Yes, but at your own risk. We’re not responsible for any lost or damaged gear.
Are photos available for purchase?
Yes! Ask your captain about photo packages, available cash only.

Yes. All guests must sign a waiver before flying. Participants under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign.

Can friends or family ride without flying?
Yes—observers are welcome!
- Duck: $35 per person if space allows. No reservations for observers—flyers take priority.
- Manteo: Observer seats are guaranteed on the first boat of the day. You can reserve in advance by phone or in person.
