Come and join us to learn why stand up paddleboarding is the Outer Banks’ fastest-growing water sport! Rooted in ancient Hawaiian culture, stand up paddleboarding or “SUPing” as many call it, has come back to life. Originally the precursor to surfing, this stimulating activity is easy to learn and excellent for the mind, body, and soul.
In just a short time, you can grab a paddle, step onto the oversized surfboard, and paddle around the calm sound waters. You will be afforded with great views through the relatively clear water where it is possible to see crabs, fish, and other animals. More experienced paddlers can test their skills in the Atlantic surf. Either way, you’re going to get great exercise and have a blast enjoying the Outer Banks in a fun, exciting way that some say is almost like, “walking on water!”
Kitty Hawk Kites offers a top-quality selection of paddleboards for rental and for purchase. Rentals are available at 8 Kitty Hawk Kites locations throughout the Outer Banks.
Beginner paddlers may start out on the sound until they are comfortable on the board and then try the surf for an added rush!
Note: Rentals are on a first come first serve basis – call ahead for availability. There are paddleboard lessons available as well. Check out tours online or call for details!
