Rentals cannot be reserved in advance/online; they are available on a first-come, first-served basis at our Rodanthe Kiteboarding and Watersports Center. Please call 252-207-1639 with any questions.

Rental Policy

Renting Kiteboarding and/or Foiling equipment requires baseline skills and knowledge before the rental can take place. Prospective renters will be required to complete a questionnaire before taking out any equipment.  You must be able to perform the following skills sufficiently before renting any equipment from the Kitty Hawk Kites Kiteboarding Center:

  • Control your riding speed by edging
  • Consistently ride in all directions including upwind
  • Ride amongst other riders comfortably and respect water right of way rules
  • Change direction without stopping
  • Self rescue and do a full pack down in water
  • Self Launch or water launch
  • Properly rig and De- rig equipment independently
  • Be self-sufficient in the water

By confirming and paying for your reservation, you are committing yourself to financial ​responsibility for our (and/or our vendor’s – add if using this for HH) equipment. All equipment will ​be inspected for damage before and after the rental period. Should the equipment be lost, stolen, ​or damaged during the rental period, you will be financially responsible for repair or replacement ​costs.

We really do try to be as flexible as possible to create an enjoyable experience for your rental with us, but we do recommend reviewing our policies.

Equipment Rental Policies

Payment:
Full payment is required to book your reservation. Kitty Hawk Kites does not “hold” spots without payment. Your card will be charged when you click “Accept” on the confirmation page. We accept Visa, Master Card, American Express, and Discover. If you want to pay by cash or gift card, you must make your reservation at one of our retail stores or activity sites. If you are unsure of where the nearest reservations facility is, please call 1-877-FLY-THIS.

Prices are subject to change, so confirm the rates at time of reservation.

Weather:
Weather changes frequently and unexpectedly on the Outer Banks, and many weather forecasts are inaccurate. Due to these factors, weather related cancellations by will likely not occur until very close to time of the scheduled reservation. Should Kitty Hawk Kites cancel your scheduled activity due to unsafe weather conditions, you will be offered the chance to reschedule your activity or provide you with a refund for the portion of the activity you were unable to complete.

Note: If you were booked on one of Kitty Hawk Kites activity packages, and one (or some) of your activities are cancelled due to weather, and you opt for a refund, you will be charged regular price for the activities you completed.

Customer Reservation Changes:

Cancellations – Should the purchasing customer request a refund, Kitty Hawk Kites will provide a full refund for any request that is made at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled activity. No refunds will be given for customer cancellations made within the 48 hours before the scheduled activity. Ground school is not refundable.

Reschedules – Customers may request to reschedule or wind check their scheduled activity to a future time or date at any time up until the day preceding their scheduled activity. Same day rescheduling shall not be permitted.

Late Arrivals & No Shows – Customers that arrive late for their scheduled activity or do not show up for their scheduled activity will not be rescheduled or refunded.
