Use optional child-seat or trailer accessories. Choose gentler roads or forest loops, take frequent stops at shade, overlooks, or local cafés. Great for families, mixed-experience groups, or those wanting a slower-paced ride.

Requirements & Rider Guidelines

Helmets are provided and required.
We recommend comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.
Bring water, sunscreen, and a charged phone (for navigation/photos).
Riders should follow local traffic and path laws — side roads, bike paths, or beach-road shoulders are ideal; avoid four-lane highways.
Beach riding (on sand) is prohibited — salt water and sand may damage e-bikes.
18 years or older to rent. 16 years or older to drive per NC state regulation.

How long does the battery last?
Most guests enjoy 45–65 miles per charge depending on pedal-assist level.

Do I need prior e-bike experience?
Not at all. The bikes are intuitive and beginner-friendly.

Where am I allowed to ride?
You may follow public roads, bike paths, and designated routes. We recommend to operate e-bikes on side roads, bike paths, the beach road shoulder, multi-use paths, or between the highways. Always ride with traffic, not against. Please do not ride on the four lane highway. Use traffic lights to cross the highway and obey traffic rules. Click here for a good list of local bike paths. The Bike Barn is conveniently close to Nags Head Woods Road path. Wright Brothers Monument, and Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Be aware that beach riding is prohibited by town governments and the sand and salt can seriously damage an e-bike.

Can families ride together?
Yes—child seats and trailers are available as optional add-ons.

What if the weather changes?
Light changes in weather are manageable, but unsafe conditions may qualify for rescheduling. Weekly Deliveries are not eligible for weather related refunds.

What is the difference between the two types of e-bikes available?
The standard utility e-bike is comfortable, easy to ride, and great for shorter outings or casual cruising, offering about 45+ miles of range. The long-range performance e-bike provides a smoother, more powerful ride with suspension and an extended 65+ mile range—ideal for full-day adventures or taller riders.
