Our expert instructors teach small group classes (ages 7 and up) daily at the resort’s main beach access. With only 2–4 students per instructor, you’ll receive personalized attention in a safe and supportive setting.

Year-round bike rentals at The Sanderling Resort offer the perfect way to explore scenic destinations like the Pine Island Audubon Sanctuary and charming Downtown Duck. All rentals include a basket and lock—so you’re free to cruise, shop, and adventure at your own pace. Whether you’re up for a quick 2-hour spin or a full day of exploring, we’ve got you covered with flexible rental options, including half-day, full-day, and even full resort stay packages.

KAYAK TOURS 🛶

Discover the peaceful beauty of the Outer Banks from the water. This beginner-friendly, flatwater kayak tour takes you through the serene salt marshes on the soundside of The Sanderling Resort, nestled within the stunning Pine Island Audubon Preserve. Tours last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, with morning and sunset paddles offering the best light and wildlife viewing. Choose from single or tandem kayaks—perfect for couples, families, or solo explorers.

TANDEM HANG GLIDING

Have you ever dreamt of flying like a bird? Tandem Hang Gliding is literally that experience! You can fly to 2000' or a mile above the Outer Banks for a bird's eye view of the area. Your certified instructor will give you a basic lesson while you fly so that you can learn what it feels like to fly.

BEGINNER HANG GLIDING AT JOCKEY'S RIDGE STATE PARK

We've been teaching Hang Gliding Lessons for nearly 50 years at Jockey's Ridge State Park! The soft sand and consistent coastal breeze make this the perfect place to learn to Hang Glide. We teach students all year and offer lessons as young as 4 years old. Kid's lessons are for anyone that is less than 100 lbs or under 13 years old. We should be able to teach kids and adults in the same class!

VINEYARD VOYAGE 🍷

Set sail on a one-of-a-kind adventure across the Currituck Sound to Sanctuary Vineyards in Jarvisburg, NC. Departing from our Kitty Hawk Kites store in Duck, this scenic boat cruise offers a relaxing journey through the tranquil canals and historic hunting grounds of Dews Island. Once ashore, you’ll be personally welcomed and guided to the vineyard for an intimate wine tasting experience, featuring locally grown and bottled North Carolina wines.

DOLPHIN TOURS 🐬

Set out on an unforgettable 2-hour cruise with the Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research and witness wild dolphins in their natural habitat! Led by a knowledgeable marine biologist, each tour offers fascinating insights into the bottlenose dolphin population that visits the Outer Banks between May and October. This family-friendly, educational experience is perfect for guests of all ages and group sizes—whether you're traveling with kids, friends, or a curious crew.

COROLLA WILD HORSE TOURS 🐎

Wmbark on a two-hour off-road adventure to Carova Beach and False Cape State Park, where the untamed beauty of the northern Outer Banks meets living history. Along the way, you’ll explore windswept dunes, maritime forests, and the dramatic shoreline near the North Carolina–Virginia border. Keep your eyes peeled for the iconic wild Spanish mustangs, believed to be descendants of colonial shipwreck survivors.
