Kitty Hawk Kites, Kitty Hawk Surf Company, and Life is Good shops are following CDC guidelines. The CDC recommends that those who are not fully vaccinated wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth, and stay 6 feet apart from people who don’t live in the same household.
Update on 5/13/2020
From the entire team at Kitty Hawk Kites, Kitty Hawk Surf Co., and Life is Good Shops we can’t wait to welcome all of our customers back. We are taking many steps to protect the safety of all guests. In our retail stores, we are limiting occupancy to facilitate social distancing and providing appropriate spacing at checkout areas. We are also installing protective shields at registers and offering customers the opportunity to receive their receipt electronically. All high-touch areas will be cleaned regularly and often with disinfecting cleaners and we will provide hand sanitizer at numerous locations around each store. At our recreation centers, we are moving much of our check-in, waiver, and orientation processes to a virtual format. We will practice social distancing at each of our recreation centers, and all rental equipment and gear will be cleaned and sanitized after each use.

While life has changed quickly and drastically in the past month, we are proud to continue to serve our crew, customers, and community. Currently, our recreation operations remain suspended. Due to some of the state and county restrictions being lifted, some of our retail stores have been able to schedule their reopening. View our list below to see which of our stores are open. If the store nearest you is not yet open, you can still shop with us online. To stop any potential spread of illness related to COVID-19, all sales in-store and online are final and no returns are allowed at this time. We have also seen slight delays in fulfillment and shipping due to the significant increase in order volume. Please allow up to three days for fulfillment to receive your tracking information. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on families and businesses across the Outer Banks, North Carolina, and the United States. Kitty Hawk Kites’ response to the crisis has been one where we put the safety of our customers and crew first.
We have temporarily suspended all recreation operations and temporarily closed all brick-and-mortar retail locations in North Carolina, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Virginia, and Florida. Our top priority during this time is the safety, health, and well–being of our customers and crew.
Our company’s purpose, as always, is to teach the world to fly and to inspire moments of pure joy that are worth sharing and repeating. We sincerely hope to be able to do that with you all again very soon. That said, we have always maintained a flexible policy regarding recreation bookings, wind checks, and cancellations. We will work with every customer to reschedule or cancel their adventure booking. We are also providing customers the option to purchase flexible adventure vouchers, so they can continue to plan their next adventure getaway even though they are unsure of when it may happen.
While our physical retail locations are closed, our online stores are still open for business, and we are adding fresh and fun products to that platform every day. If you’re looking for a game, toy, or puzzle to pass the time, visit our online store to see what’s new.

Retail – In-Person Shopping
Which of your stores are currently open?
Unfortunately, all of the locations where we have stores are under a local, county, or state travel restriction which requires our brick-and-mortar retail locations to remain temporarily closed. We will open our stores as soon as is possible and safe. Until then, you can shop ANY of our merchandise online!
I live in the Outer Banks. Are you offering any sort of delivery service?
Yes! We’re still taking care of our locals. If there is a product you would like to buy, you can order it online or by calling our online sales department at 1.877.359.8447 ext. 3. Locals will still receive their 20% discount when buying online! We are providing limited delivery service to locations from Manteo to Duck. Some exclusions apply, and you must have a valid Dare County address to receive the discount. Delivery is not currently available outside of the Outer Banks.

There is something you offer in your stores, but I don’t see the product online. Can I still buy it?
Yes! We are adding more and more product to our online store every day, but the product you are looking for may not be listed there (yet). If you know what you would like to buy, reach out to our online sales department at 1.877.359.8447 ext. 3 or firstname.lastname@example.org and we can get you what you need!
I see that the item I want to buy from your website is out of stock. Am I out of luck?
Not at all! Just because a product is showing as out of stock, that doesn’t mean we can’t get it to you. We may have one in a store location that we can send you, or we can do a special order from the manufacturer. There are no extra charges for special orders, and we never pass along any extra fees to our customers.
Is your shipping currently delayed due to COVID-19?
At this time, our warehouse and fulfillment center is not experiencing delays in processing and shipping orders. However, the mail and shipping carriers may be experiencing delays.
What Adventures are currently available?
We have suspended all Adventures until we re-open our facilities base on a variety of factors including the “Stay at Home” mandates issued for the respective counties and states where we operate.
When will you re-open your Adventures?
We hope to be back open to offering our adventure activities as soon as possible. Some activities may take a little longer to come back online, but we’re working hard to ensure we are back up and running as quickly as possible.
Can I still book adventures for this summer?
Absolutely! We are still taking reservations beginning May 1st – that date could change depending on what unfolds leading up to May 1st. Thank you for supporting us during this uncertain time.
What happens if my reservation is canceled due to COVID-19 disruption?
Our cancellation policies remain the same. We believe that they are very fair for you to feel confident in booking with us.
Cancellations on your part within 48 hours are non-refundable, but we offer full refunds if we have to cancel your Adventure for any reason, including COVID-19 shutdowns.
We understand that you may be uncertain of when you’re coming back, but we’re happy to extend your reservation as on hold to any date in the future. We understand if you need the reimbursement now, but if you are able to play it forward, we would be grateful for your commitment to our future business by helping us sustain our current business.
